Dr. Mohamed Aly Saad Aly is an Adjunct Assistant Professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Georgia Tech, where he joined in 2022, and an Assistant Professor at the Georgia Tech Shenzhen Institute. He holds a Ph.D. in Systems Design Engineering from the University of Waterloo and is a licensed Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) in Ontario. Over his career, he has led engineering research and design across universities and industry in the US, China, and South Korea, including work on microfabrication, sensor platforms, and imaging systems. His current research focuses on microfluidic devices, electrochemical sensors, and smart materials.
Build It to Win: Turning Engineering Ideas Into Science Fair Projects
28th October · 9:00 PM ET
Join Dr. Mohamed Aly Saad Aly, Adjunct Assistant Professor at Georgia Tech, and Kara Gaiser, two-time Regeneron ISEF Grand Award winner, for a practical look at how an engineering idea becomes a competition-ready science fair project. Kara will share how she built award-winning projects from the first idea to the judging table, and what she learned about presenting her work with confidence. Dr. Aly Saad Aly will explain what rigorous engineering design looks like and how the right guidance can help students approach their projects with more structure and purpose.

About Alex

Kara Gaiser recently graduated from the University of California, Berkeley with a degree in mechanical engineering and a concentration in aerospace engineering. She is now an ECS Integration Engineer at Archer. Her aerospace and bioengineering research has been recognised at the Regeneron International Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF), where she is a two-time Grand Award winner. Kara was named a 2025 Brooke Owens Fellow and has completed internships at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory and Vast Space. In high school, she earned 17 science fair awards and led her aerospace team to become National Champions of the American Rocketry Challenge.
How Indigo Research works
Indigo Research mentors high school students to produce exceptional, publishable research. With a curriculum designed by Harvard and Oxford graduates, students work with top university faculty or PhD fellows, building intellectual depth and boosting their academic profile.
Our students achieve real outcomes – journal publications, competition wins, and admissions to the world’s leading universities. Indigo students have a 33% Ivy League acceptance rate – over three times the global average – and a 22% acceptance rate to Oxford and Cambridge.
