For the 2025-2026 academic year, the estimated cost of attendance (excluding housing and food) is around $40,000. This limits less affluent students from applying. Nevertheless, this disadvantage is offset by the possibility of being awarded one of the merit scholarships outlined above.
Duke’s campus life has a longstanding tradition of “Greek Culture”, that is, social clubs called fraternities and sororities. These organisations can provide a sense of community and belonging for their members and are a significant part of the campus’s social fabric – around 37% of students are involved in fraternities or sororities. However, those who prefer not to partake in Greek Culture may feel isolated. To address this, Duke has recently implemented the new QuadEx system, a unique residential system that brings together students from different courses in thematic communities, promoting interdisciplinary learning and closer ties between students.
