For California students, the minimum GPA required to be considered for admission to UCSB is 3.0; for out-of-state students, it’s 3.4. That said, students applying with a GPA close to those minimums will have a very low chance of acceptance, as UCSB expects applicants to have achieved academic excellence in high school. The average GPA accepted to UCSB (as opposed to the minimum), is much higher. For the 2024-2025 admissions cycle, the average GPA for admitted students fell between 4. 13 and 4. 29. This low yield rate does not mean that the school is easy to get into, or that it provides a substandard education.
